If your are going to adequately represent the American people (actually get the job done, not just posture), you have to use some tactical sense. And, believe me, not everyone knows the war is already lost. There are lots of people out there who believe that it can still be won. Appalling, but true!

By passing the bill, the Democrats have given Bush until September. If things don't improve by then (from Bush's viewpont), the Democrats will have the next election pretty well sewed up.
