Subject: RE: BS: TV Series: The Sopranos finale
I thought the ending divided the world into two segments--- those
who paid attention in English Literature and those who just got
the Cliff Notes for Moby Dick.

Ron, you and I have come to the same conclusion--- here's a guy
for whom going out to dinner with the wife and kids isn't just
going out to dinner with the wife and kids. And it never will
be, given the choices he's made for himself. While he's waiting
with Carmella, there's talk of perhaps some testimony against
him. Then everyone starts to look like a hit man.

Note, too, the underlying themes of trying to pretend to be
'normal' in the last couple of shows. Small-talk with the
chef, about the kids, covering for that which they found
unsettling or uncomfortable. And the attempt to have a 'normal'
dinner out, following visiting Silvio and Uncle Junior.

Fade to black, because however long Tony lives, whether it's
seconds or decades, that's going to be his life. Pretending
to be 'normal' but nothing ever will be.

"I can't help you" his shrink finally says.

Nobody can.

A black future, indeed.
