There would have been no need for this ban, and no call for it, if only smokers had had the good manners to go outside when they smoke. They didn't and they don't. I don't think I've ever seen anyone leave a pub or similar place to light up, except where they have been officially required to do so.

And of course if smokers were to do that, as a matter of good manners, they wouldn't even notice that this law existed, because it wouldn't affect them or anyone else.
