Just re-read this:

"I just want to take some of my favourite songs from my cds and put them on a playlist."

*IF* you want songs from more than ONE CD on a playlist, they must be copied..('ripped') to your hard drive. You can have only 1 CD in the drive at a time, so you can have only songs from that CD on a temporary playlist.
