I heard this discussed today on National Public Radio, in a fair amount of depth. I can't remember which program. Maybe Diane Rehm on her news roundup? Anyway, there seemed to have been a problem in that the author had done no traveling when his early books were produced, but once he did begin traveling on his own and saw how things were in the places he visited, his work became more balanced. That was the opinion I heard expressed this morning, at any rate.
