I have a sneaking fondness for the slugs you see crawling as fast as they can across paving stones. They look so vulnerable, courageous and somehow optimistic, with their little eyes stuck out on stalks.

Generally I heave slugs over the next doo neighbour's garden fence. They probably end up eaten by his frogs, but they have a fighting chance.
