Thread Name: Origin: Barges (Girl Scout song)
Subject: RE: Origin of: BARGES (Girl Scout song)
"Canciones de Nuestra Cabaña," published by World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, pub. Girl Scouts of the U. S. A., 1980, says "Source Unknown."

Spanish lyrics are given for the chorus:

Desde mi ventana puedo ver las luces
de la barcas en el rio. ?Llevarán
tésoros? ?Serán piratas preparados
para luchar? !Como me gustaría
navegar en ellas!

(From my window I see the lights
of the boats (barges) in the river. Are they carrying
treasures? Are pirates preparing
to board? How I would love to sail in them!)

An English translation given with the Spanish, adding a first verse-

Out of my window looking in the night
I can see the barges' flickering light;
Starboard shines green and port is glowing red,
You can see them flickering far ahead.
Chorus:
Barges, I would like to go with you,
I would like to sail the ocean blue.
Barges, have you treasures in your hold?
Do you fight with pirates brave and bold?

With score. P. 8.
