Barry Dransfield - that's just reminded me of another from Leicester. I think with his brother though my memory could be all over the place.

Either students had lots of money in those days (though I don't remember it as being that expensive) or performers were reasonably priced but Universities at that time were able to attract some pretty impressive performers.

As a complete aside and nothing to do with folk music in any shape or form - but they used to get a wonderful range of bands as well. I saw Cockney Rebel and Queen in local halls of residence; a friend of mine achieved his dream by shaking hands with Ray Davies when the Kinks played (wonderful evening); Caravan who I liked at the time disappointed me; Sweet highly surpassed what I expected. Loads of music of quality and diversity.
