You need to keep in perspective the amount of the destruction that was caused not by the US but by factional psychosis internal to Iraq. If the Shiites and Shia had just put their tribal and sectarian revenges behind them, the death toll would have been much, much lower.

This does not in any way mean to reduce the blatant psychosis of invading Iraq in the first place; it was unspeakably stupid, ignorant and inept.

A
