Well, I'd been thinking of putting this into a Thought Of The Day thread, but didn't want to bum EVERYBODY out. I might be guilty of Thread Creep, but I figure that people reading this one are probably willing to think sad thoughts... Anyway, here goes.
17 years ago today, the US embassy in Beirut was carbombed, killing about 70 people. 17 of them were American. Fewer than a handful were military. One, not one of the soldiers but one of the Americans, was a USAID employee, a Quaker, and my father. I wish someone would write a song about that.
