Besides, they put it in Latin so they'd sound educated. It was a tossup between this one and "Usquequaque madidus, nunquam siccus." They meant it to mean "Always drinking, never thirsty" but it translates better as "Always wet, never dry." Since some of the Legionaires (but none of the Legionettes) have embarassing bladder troubles (stemming from certain unsavory habits in their youth), well, some wag suggested "Pendeo" but the Legion as a whole rejected the motto "Depends".
