No, it's to wick the liquid drops into the ear and in contact with the inner ear skin. I found some links to otitis externa, but they're pretty gross looking. I hope mine isn't like that. Nothing on the outside, but it is sure tender inside the ear. I think it was draining inadequately when a small infection got started. . . and that's probably enough information.
