Playing as I do both banjo and melodeon (shaddup) they do have
something in common. Both can be a bit of a sledge-hammer where
a screwdriver is called for.

While playing a delicate accompaniment behind a thoughtful ballad
can certainly be done, and to great effect with either instrument,
it isn't the 'default' mode of either instrument and likely isn't
in the skill-set of the relative beginner to accomplish.

Guitar players have a any number of resources and examples to help
them learn to do something besides flail at the thing or play loud
and/or fast. It's less so for banjo players, and very much less so
for box players.
