Rap, we're looking at $10K as well on our little roof because I have to put in some serious ventilation to spare future roofs (and perhaps our heating/cooling bill). Metal is way expensive (the raised seam variety). Several neighbors have metal shingles made to look like shakes. Several neighbors still have the original shakes on houses 30 and more years old. They repair them every so often. There are fibreglass shingles and asphalt shingles. Metal would be nice, but way over the budget, I fear.
