Eee, When I was a lad we still had a knocker up man. I'm only just 50. He must have been one of the last ones. His name was Alan and he also did something, probably cleaned, the gas lamps in the street.
Must have been some of the last gas lamps as well.
Any idea when the last of the gas lamps in general use went?
I don't mean the odd ones at the museum in Manchester!
