Thanks, Bill, and to the others who have PMed me. My daughter's morale is high and she is somewhat fatalistic in a good sense. She and her husband are aware that they have done everything they could and taken everything with them that is vitally important to them. The fate of the rest, she said, is "all right".

They were offered refuge in the homes of various friends but none of the homes were that distant and the one thing my son in law said is that he doesn't want to be evacuated more than once. Where they are now is several hours away.

One thing about southern Californians- they are a tough breed and have often had to stare down disaster.
