My high school band director always said that every song was either a love song or a march. Of course he meant musically, not lyrically, since marching and concert bands don't use lyrics.
But I think he had a valid point as far as the musical feel of a song.
   I also think if you are trying to learn to write love songs, learning and playing some in the style you are seeking will get you on the right wave length.
