These sorts of collaborations are not brand-new. CMT-TV (country music, cable) has been running a really good series called "Crossroads" where a country artist and a rock artist who mutually admire one another's work team up, bands and all, for a 1-hour special.

The program includes rehearsal footage and brief interviews where each talks about how the other has influenced them. The several I have seen have been pretty good-- synergies. One of the artists usually has gotten the ball rolling to name and sometimes solicit another genre's artists to participate. In some cases, the way they've done each other's songs has, IMO, surpassed the original.

It's not so crazy-- don't we folkies have at least one "Guilty Pleasures" thread, and have eclectic tastes in our car CDs?
