If it seems stupid, remember there's avery strong chance that it actually ain't true.

There was a regionally infamous incident here a few years back in which a minor public official was reprimanded by his boss and ordered to issue an apology for using the word "niggardly" in a speech.

While I agree that much of what seems stupid is fictitous, I also believe the human capacity for stupidity is nearly infinite.
