What makes this question all the more difficult is the lack of uniform agreement, both internationally and within Italy, as to what cheeses these appellations actually refer. According to that most reliable of sources, Wikipedia, Romano is apparently a fairly generic term applied to cheeses that can be made with goat, sheep or cow's milk. However, it also connotes a very ancient method of cheese production. Ancient is good. Right?

The designation parmesan, however, is fraught with contraversy and international disagreement. Some would say parmesan is a term applied only to an apostate American made cheese produced by Kraftsmen.

Think of the implications. What if YOUR child were spaghettied by Kraft Parmesan, moved to Italy, tried to join an FSM congregation there, and was rejected as having been Sprinkled with an imposter.

This could have implications for all eternity!

What's a mudder or fadder to do??!!!!
