A Greek, a Trojan, and an Jew were captured by pirates. A sudden storm came up and the pirate ship began to founder. Drawing his sword, the pirate captain announced "we are too heavy, and are likely to sink! One of you must throw himself overboard!" With this, the Greek shouted "Long live Apollo!" and hurled himself in. But it was to no avail. The ship was in trouble. "Another must go!" shouted the pirate, and the Trojan stood up on the gunwail and, hollering "Long live Hector!", plunged in. The storm grew in its fury, and again the pirate called "we are still in trouble! You also must go!"
