My favouritte towns have:-

nice clean public toilets - if you can't have a civilised wee, its not much of a place
a river where you can see the fishes swimming past
a good newsagent
a diversity of restaurants
a bookshop
at least one folk club, but three would be better (in pubs naturally)
some other performance venues, art galleries, etc
a cinema accessible for disabled people
local delicacies
a coffee bar - a proper one
