Of the new breed of serious young actors, Ledger was among my favorites. He gave consistently strong performances, and showed a remarkable nose for substantial roles, avoiding the pretty-boy and action-hero traps. Already Oscar-nominated at 28, he had a knack both for comedy and drama. I feel terrible for his little girl.
