It is quite true that virtually all wars are thought to be for the legitimate defence of one's homeland by most or almost all of the ordinary people who serve as combatants in those wars!

And it's quite sad that that is so.

It occurs mainly because the few people at the top who planned their wars of aggression and conquest always have extensive propaganda means at hand to mislead the ordinary people who comprise their population.

To realize this is to become wise enough to question such leadership stringently, and to refuse to be taken in by their false propaganda. Unfortunately, many people never do become that wise, and young people (specially young men) are the easiest to mislead in that regard. That is how despots and liars have raised willing armies to do their dirty work in this world for the past few thousand years.

It in no way invalidates my original point:

"The only good (and moral) reason there ever has been to fight a war was the legitimate defence of one's own homeland against a direct attack by a foreign entity... and the legitimate resistance against invasion of one's homeland and the occupation of it by foreign armies."

And I stand by it. It is anything but meaningless. It is the truth. And it always will be.
