Thread Name: Lyr Req: How'm I Doin'?
Subject: Lyr Add: HOW'M I DOIN'? (Lemuel Fowler)
Peace apparently copied those lyrics from the web site Heptune where the transcription is said to have been made from a 1933 Betty Boop cartoon called "I Heard." That's why the voices are identified as "Dog waiter" and "mice."

Here's my transcription of a recording that you can hear at The Red Hot Jazz Archive, made by Don Redman and His Orchestra in 1932 -- the same band that made the soundtrack for the cartoon, although that was a specially-made recording that changed the lyrics from "Sadie Green" to "Betty Boop" and made a few other small changes.

I believe Heptune is mistaken in saying that Don Redman wrote HOW'M I DOIN'.

HOW'M I DOIN' (HEY, HEY)
Lemuel Fowler

I know a gal named Sadie Green,
Hottest gal in New Orleans.
She loves to dance. She loves to sing.
Say, she'll take a chance on any old thing.
The other night down at the hall, when the band would play,
She only stayed to get on that floor, boy, and this is what she'd say:

(What'd she say, Don?)

How'm I doin'? (Hey, hey!) Tweet, tweet, tweet, twa, twa.
Oh, how'm I doin'? (Hey, hey!) Oh, gee, baby, oh, shaw.
Say, I'll admit I'm not the best in town,
But I'll be best until best come 'round.
How'm I doin'? (Hey, hey!) Tweet, tweet, tweet, twa, twa.

I'm askin' you: how'm I doin'? (Hey, hey!) Tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet, twa, twa.
Oh, how'm I doin'? (Hey, hey!) Oh, gee, baby, oh, shaw.
I'm not braggin' but it's understood
That everything I do, I sure do good.
How'm I doin'? (Hey, hey!) Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.

How'm I doin'? (Hey, hey!) Tweet, tweet, tweet, nyeh, nyeh, nyeh, nyeh.
Oh, how'm I doin'? (Hey, hey!) Oh, gee, baby, oh, shaw.
I only meant to do a little bit.
You done made me like it and I just can't quit.
How'm I doin'? (Hey, hey!) Tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet, twa, twa.

Oh, how'm I doin'? (Hey, hey!)
