Well, gee, I found this site called The Jerk - The Unofficial Homepage (click). I clicked on the link titled "Script", and here's what I found:I know, I know,Another resource says the song was written in 1926, words by Billy Rose and music by Lee David. Recorded in 1956 by Patience and Prudence. Billy Rose, former spouse of Fanny Brice, also wrote "DOES THE SPEARMINT LOSE ITS FLAVOR ON THE BEDPOST OVERNIGHT?." Fanny Brice, of course, was the original "Funny Girl."
You belong to somebody new,
But tonight, you belong to me.
Although, although,
We're apart, you're part of my heart,
And tonight, you belong to me.
Way down by the stream,
How sweet it would seem,
Once more just to breathe in the moonlight my honey...
I know, I know,
With the dawn, that you will be gone,
But tonight, you belong to me.
Just to little ol' me.
I can't get over the name of that group. They're probably undercover nuns, Sister Mary Patience and Sister Mary Prudence, dressed in civilian clothes and out to find out the secrets of men.
