What hasn't happened here is the parsing of this into different songs for different sequences. Where is Elizabeth Kubler-Ross? That is:
a) Songs for the first half hour (Ding, Dong the Witch is Dead through to Gotterdammerung);

b) Songs to sit and mope to, hour after hour, day after day.

c) Songs to get you through the night (these are different than mope songs).

d) Songs to bring back/eviscerate/cover over/eradicate memories.

e) Songs to begin to move back to human being status.

The best example of (e) that I know is George Jones' "He Stopped Loving Her Today". The song is so ridiculously, completely over the top, that you have to laugh. Which is a start towards (e).
