Actually, LH, the French, the Dutch, the Spaniards and the Moors, not to mention the Romans and Attila the Hun have all had empires, and there were the Mughal emporers in India too, and now it seems the US is trying to build an empire by both war and cultural colonialism, so I think UK is probably no worse than many there.
