Dr. Rick, I took at least 1/4 inch off an old Harmony archtop neck, reshaped the heel and the headstock without any ill effects. There is no trussrod either. I used it thus for a year or so, but it's currently hanging in my shop awaiting a new bridge. I don't expect it to be a problem when I get around to restringing it. Once reshaped a P-bass neck to more closely resemble a Jazz bass neck (pulled the frets to make it fretless too), no trouble. If you've got a trussrod you'll be fine, and likely fine even without.
