All potential differences in electricity attempt to reach equilibrium. That's what causes electrons to flow, and lightning bolts to arc from one place to another.

Now arguing people, on the other hand, do not attempt to reach equilibrium, they attempt to verbally destroy one another, and that's what causes most of the problems around here. ;-)
