I think many people do. Some jobs lend themselves better of course..if you are doing work that allows you to make noise and talk back and forth, and there is a rhythm to the work that helps. Also, people might not sing about their own experiences..public health nursing, laundromat owner, many white collar occupations that are actually quite mentally draining as opposed to more physically tiring...and where you might be crowded together in bullpens rather than out in the open air...

You might want to sing of your ancestors. Or the community you are in. Or you might like the songs because they are often extremely powerful..and there is perhaps a there but for the grace of God go I down in the coal mines or in a shipwreck or something. Who knows...but they are great...and often a window into other times and places. mg
