Mike had a Renault Laguna from new which was lovely and I had a Clio which I bought as an ex courtesy car at 3months old. Both were 100% reliable, although the Clio started to cost money at MOT time after 10 years. We only changed make because our local dealer went out of business, not out of any dissatisfaction.
