A while back I was driving along a fourlane; I was in the fast lane doing about five miles an hour over the speed limit. The eighteen wheeler in the slow lane was doing about four miles an hour over the speed limit, so it was taking a while to get past him.

I would have slowed down and got in behind him but for this tailgater. He couldn't have been more than about a yard off my rear bumper.

While checking him in my mirror I saw him take his eyes off the road and talk to his wife. I took that opportunity to just touch my brakes hard enough to turn on the lights but not hard enough to slow me down any.

When he looked to the road again he saw my brakelights and hit his brakes hard, nearly putting his wife through the windshield.

I finally managed to get into the slow lane, but it was ten minutes later before he passed me. His wife was still reaming him a new one.
