Otherwise - I always thought M&Ms replaced Chocolate Treats, at least they did in the UK, where Smarties are a different beast altogether, though maybe that's more to do with the packaging than anything else, that distinctive cardboard tube which determines the experience right down to different coloured lids each with a different letter of the alphabet.
