I use PalTalk, and have for lo, these many moons. For one year I did pay to maintain the Pop-Up free status, then resumed free service.

I don't get pop-ups, which may be due to the pop-up prevention in Norton.

I like the open mike format of PalTalk. I'll probably try Second Life, but frankly I have no desire to have a simultaneous jam. I am a solo act, for good or ill.
