And, yes, Kendall, the rumor once was that tomatoes were poisonous and they are in the nightshade family.   Naturopathic medicine folks often advise people with rheumatoid arthritis to avoid anything in the nightshade family, including tomatoes. (They make you stiff when you have sex - but in the wrong places.)
