Doc John - the photo wasn't James Bond, but Henry Jones Snr, Indie's dad - a lovely little 'family' touch along with the portrait and statue of Marcus Brodie (Denholm Elliot). I think it was there to signify the passing of time, the (possible?) death of Henry Snr and to provide a link to the previous film.

If you watched carefully, as in the previous films, there were references to the Ark of the Covenant and other adventures.
