When I was growing up in the 70's we often went to the village "barn dance" and the band was the such and such dance band. As time progressed I joined a band that played exactly the same kind of tunes in the same kind of venues but we were a ceilidh band. Now a days I would tend to associate a Barn Dance with American Square dancing
