I had to laugh when I read about the group that "mix[es] acapella with capella."John Roberts and Tony Barrand, whose discography can be found here, sing mostly a capella.
True sea chanteys (not to be confused with sea songs in general) are always done a capella, and so are other work songs, such as those sung by gandy dancers. It's easy to see why.
