We lived in New Orleans from 45-47, and I am told I was in the Beaumont, Port Arthur, Lake Charles area once with my folks, but I was in 1st grade and don't remember....what I DO remember is the hurricane in Sept of '47 that blew water over the levees and flooded us out. It was not a huge one, I gather, but I looked out and saw two palm trees next door bent almost double by wind.

I do hope that now, with these fancy warning systems and plenty of lead time, that folks who can will GET OUT OF THE WAY! It is NOT something to be macho about.
