Yeah, I heard that joke when I was in fourth or fifth grade, which would have been about 1956-57—only the man was hiding in a chandelier, which didn't seem plausible to me even then—and the punch line was, "Ding dong, you bastard." It was one of the first "dirty" jokes I ever heard.

As a joke, it would seem embarrassingly childish to me now, but as a song, it isn't bad.
