people considered to be Outsider Artists often have not developed out of a trad mainstream art world. They are outsiders in that their work can come from extreme mental states and totally unconventional ways of perceiving. the Australian outsider art network has developed with the assistance of Phil Hammial, an artist and sculptor who went in search of artists here and has managed to get them regulalrly exhibited in Australia and overseas.
