Alan, if anything you have been too patient and conciliatory. I would never write to such a "friend" indicating that "I hope we can remain friends" etc after such emails. The first one would be enough - I'd let them know that they offended me, without explaining in detail the how and without bothering to defend my position. They can either work it out for themselves or stuff it, I wouldn't care.

The forwarding of a single such email shows a mentality that I would never want to be assosiated with. Full stop. Life is too short to be explaining oneself to arseholes.
