Ahhh - what a great evening! Richard, Jess, Gav and Helen gave of their best, both with wonderfully and sensitively played tunes and some great vocals and harmonies. And their setlist was full of gems. Gorgeous versions of "Old horse" and "The ladies go dancing at Whitsun", two of my faves, but also some lovely songs I'd not heard before, or not in the versions done by Crucible - "Under the leaves" (or "Dead baby song") was one such.

I can honestly say they blew us away; which I knew they would, of course, having hear them before, so no risk there. Indeed when a club member asked a couple of weeks ago "who are these Crucible people, can they be worth the £xxx fee?", I told them to just wait and see - last night the same person could be seen transfixed by the material, performances and professionalism of this wonderful group from Sheffield.

English traditional music is alive and well, songs and tunes alike, when youngsters like these are willing to give it their best. Walkaboutsverse, pay attention.
