Thread Name: Set Lists: If I show you mine, will you...
Subject: If I show you mine, will you...
There have been some very interesting and lively threads recently on folk club types, the music that's performed in them, standards of performance, etc.

It occurred to me that it might be interesting to know what the performers among us would consider to be typical of their set list. In the first place it would throw a useful sidelight on their comments in these threads; in the second place, it would be good for me - as a comparative newbie - to see the range of music played and sung by a range of 'Catters.

So, I wondered whether you would like to imagine that you'd been called up and asked, "Would you like to play as a guest in my club?" What 10 songs/tunes would you consider most representative of your repertoire - a snapshot, if you like? On the principal that if I show you mine, you might show me yours, a prospective enquirer to me would get something like:

* The Cuckoo's Nest (traditional) instrumental played on guitar
* Three Jolly Rogues Of Lynn (traditional) vocal & guitar - OR Appalachian dulcimer instrumntal
* A Nice Quiet Day (Gus Elen) vocal & guitar
* Sitting On Top Of The World (Mississippi Sheiks) vocal & guitar
* She Ain't Rose (Leon Redbone) vocal & guitar
* Spanish Ladies/Leather Away The Wattle-O (traditional) mandolin OR tenor banjo instrumental
* George Green's College Hornpipe/The Marquis of Lorne (traditional) tenor banjo instrumental
* I'll See You In My Dreams (Isham Jones) guitar instrumental
* Deep River Blues (Delmore Brothers) vocal & guitar
* Doctor Jazz (Jelly Roll Morton) vocal & tenor ukulele

There! Now you can have a good laugh...

By, the way, this is not a sneaky plug for bookings - it's a genuine enquiry! (Though the promise of a pint of bitter and a pork pie will usually lure me out my Sussex stronghold).

Over to you...
