I knew it had origins other than the British Military which is why I put 'allegedly', knowing Wikipediment's idea of accuracy.

Couldn't decide if its origins were Middle Eastern, Asian or Romany but if you say Arabic, then that's fairly reasonable... the British Army has done more than its' fair share of meddling in Middle Eastern politics over the centuries.
