This thread really should be an obit. I remember being sad when the Woolworth's closed in downtown Hopewell, Virginia when I was a kid.

But it is different here in UK. Woolies is iconic High Street family store. Its closure throughout the UK is going to contribute to killing the High Street the way downtown America died the death with the buidling of shopping centres. Now those 1970s shopping centres are outdated and seedy compared to shopping malls.

I blame the 24 hour Walmarts and bargain basement Asdas of the world. Sucking the breath out of communities.

This is bad and very sad.
