We had a Kresge's and a Newberry's where I grew up, and one independent 5and10 called Smiler's. Neighboring towns had Grant's and McRory's. Oddly enough, I don't remember a Woolworth's anywhere near where I lived as a kid. But I loved those stores. They had everything you could need or want. And I miss the lunch counters. Nice simple food. SRS - thanks for posting the site with the pictures of the Woolworth Bldg. I used to pass it every day on my way to work. I love that building. I did get into it once, as a friend of mine had his law office on one of the top floors. He had the best views of lower Manhattan from there. I'm sorry to hear that it's closed to the public these days.
