His movies were just great. From the stupid like "Robin and the Seven Hoods" to the humorous like Max in "The Great Race" to all those heartfelt often cranky older men/fathers/grandpas that he played in later life, Peter Falk created other characters as well drawn as Columbo ever was. The guy in "California Dolls" was just classic as was his portrayal of the bumbling but successful thief Tony Pina in "The Brink's Job. The remake of "The In-Laws" couldn't hold a candle to Peter and Alan Arkin.

I never saw Peter Falk in a bad role or doing a part that was less than his best even when poorly written and in a schlocky movie. He is a great, great, actor and certainly one of the very best of his generation.
