I wonder if anyone can give me some information on how the song came about, and what is the "Shenandoah" that the singer refers to? A person? A place? I always thought it was about a river, and that there was an indian chief who had a daughter that the singer was in love with...something about "I'll take her cross the shining water...Any help would be greatly appreciatated.
